What Is Indexing And Stopping It??
Hi All,
When I boot up my pc, an icon in the mini-try starts Indexing.
What is Indexing and does it do?
Can I access its setting, to prevent it from auto starting up?
Any suggestions or feedback as to how to resolve this problem,
and please post any step by step instructions as well.
Please Keep In Simple.
Thanks In Advance for the help

I assume we're talking XP, if you stop the service then searches will be slower
I'm referring to the file search facility, usually found towards the bottom of the right column of the Start Menu -- the one with the puppy.
Desktop search products (MS, Google, Yahoo and Copernic), run their own indexers, my tests revealed that none of them is as efficient as the native indexer on XP - even tho' the MS and Google indexers use the same filters,
I don;t use one myself, but I think indexing programs scan the computer so that when you search for something on your computer it will be faster.
You could disable the active at startup wither within the program or by using a startup manager like the ones listed at best free startup manager here:http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-startup-manager.htm
